Paphos Airport (PFO) — convenient for the west of the island.
Hotel & resort delivery in Kyrenia, Famagusta, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia.

Car Hire in North Cyprus
Pick up at Ercan Airport or your hotel and explore the north at your leisure — the castles and harbour of Kyrenia (Girne), the old city walls of Famagusta (Gazimağusa), the wild beaches of the Karpaz Peninsula and the mountain villages in between. Roads are quiet and scenic, and our local team knows every route.

Please note: a car hired in North Cyprus cannot be taken across the border into the south. If your trip includes both sides of the island, talk to us when booking and we'll arrange the best solution for you.

Car Hire in South Cyprus
Collect your car at Larnaca or Paphos Airport and you're minutes from the beaches of Ayia Napa and Protaras, the seafront of Limassol, the harbours of Paphos and the archaeology of the south. With your own car you can combine coast, countryside and the Troodos Mountains in a single trip.

If you'd like to visit the north as well, see the cross-border guidance below — and ask us to set up the right insurance before you travel.

Driving Across the Green Line: What You Need to Know

Cyprus is divided by the UN buffer zone known as the Green Line, and the rules for taking a hire car across it are important to get right:

South to North: many South Cyprus rental companies allow you to drive north, but your standard insurance is not valid in the north. You must buy compulsory North Cyprus traffic insurance at the checkpoint (typically around €20–€35, depending on duration). This is third-party cover only, so you remain responsible for any damage to the hire car while in the north. Always check your specific rental terms first.
North to South: a car hired in the north cannot be driven into the south. The usual approach is to leave it on the northern side and pick up a separate car across the border.
Documents: you'll need your passport to cross (it won't be stamped), along with your rental agreement and vehicle documents.
Crossing points: the main vehicle checkpoint is Metehan / Agios Dometios in Nicosia; others include Deryneia near Famagusta.

If your itinerary covers both north and south, the simplest, most worry-free option is often a separate rental on each side — and we're happy to arrange it. Just ask.

What You Need to Rent a Car in Cyprus
Minimum age: usually 21 (often 25 in the north), with a young-driver surcharge for drivers under 25.
Driving licence: held for at least 1–2 years. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet or has no photo, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside it.
Passport for identification (and essential if crossing the border).
Payment card for the security deposit — a credit card is preferred by most suppliers, though many accept debit cards.

Driving in Cyprus: Quick Tips
Drive on the left in both the north and the south — familiar territory for UK drivers.
Speed limits are signed in km/h: roughly 100 km/h on motorways and 50 km/h in towns.
Seatbelts are compulsory, and young children must use appropriate child seats.
Zero tolerance for drink-driving applies across the island.
Road signs are in Greek in the south and Turkish in the north, but use standard international symbols.
Avoid off-road / dirt tracks in a hire car — this can void your insurance.
Rental cars sometimes carry distinctive plates; fuel stations are plentiful in towns and along main roads.

How It Works
Book online — choose your pick-up location, dates and vehicle, and confirm in minutes.
Add your extras — child seats, GPS, additional drivers or cross-border insurance.
Send your flight details — your car is ready when you land.
Collect and go — sign, grab the keys and start exploring Cyprus.

Cyprus Car Hire: FAQs

Can I pick up a hire car at Ercan, Larnaca or Paphos Airport?
Yes. We offer car hire at all three Cyprus airports, plus free delivery to many hotels and city locations.

Can I drive a Cyprus hire car between the north and the south?
A car hired in the south can often be driven north with extra North Cyprus insurance bought at the border (check your rental terms), but a car hired in the north cannot enter the south. For trips covering both sides, a separate rental on each side is usually best.

How old do I need to be to rent a car in Cyprus?
Generally 21 (often 25 in the north), with a young-driver fee for drivers under 25 and a licence held for at least 1–2 years.

Do I need an International Driving Permit?
If your licence is in the Latin alphabet and carries a photo, usually not. If not, bring an IDP alongside your original licence.

Which side of the road does Cyprus drive on?
The left — the same as the UK, in both the north and the south.

Is insurance included?
Basic insurance is included, with full-protection and cross-border options available to add at checkout.
